For an organization to be truly successful it must answer three questions in a proper order. Those questions are Why? How? and What? When one of these questions is not answered the whole structure begins to breaks down or functions on a level of mediocrety. "Why" necessarily comes first to say the purpose of the organization, without which any "hows" or "whats" have no direction. "How" allows us to create ideas and plans to execute our purpose, without which our "whats" are disordered and our "why" may never come to fruition. "What" is the practical steps, the actions to execute both "why" and "how", without which the other two remain speculation.
The Why? of The Knights of the Holy Temple
To form Catholic Gentlemen who submit themselves to the will of God, frequent the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Reconciliation, learn the Truths of the Church and defend Her honor, and conduct themselves in purity of action, decency in speech, modesty in dress, respect towards others, and a spirit of good nature.
The How? of The Knights of the Holy Temple
By guiding them to experience Godly masculinity in Adventure, Battle, and Beauty. The heart of each man desires these three things. If we are able to feed the masculine heart with uncorrupted understandings of Adventure, Battle, and Beauty, he will become the Catholic Gentleman we seek to form:
Our hearts as men long to know the answer to the question
Do I have what it takes?
We engage in things within our lives, adventures if you will, that help us to answer this question: basketball, football, baseball, soccer, hiking, swimming, running, cliff jumping, bungey jumping, hunting, fishing, friendships, romantic relationships, politics, just to name a few. A young man must challenge his strength. A young man must seek his purpose through those strengths that he builds. And this must never be done outside the Will of God.
We must be willing to battle what is evil in our lives. When we see injustice, we must stand up against it. Fear cannot govern our actions. However, we do not fight in a "hack 'n' slash" manner. We do not fight what is in front of us out of vengence or hate. We as men fight the evils in front of us out of love for what is behind us. We must protect that which is given to us. Our anger can be a good thing for the sake of justice if it is always under control and ordered towards love.
The stories that capture our attention are often the ones where the hero rescues and wins the heart of the fair maiden. We have a great desire to rescue and lay down his life for beauty. While a relationship with a woman is the first thing our minds are drawn to, we must not forget that beauty is found in other forms: art, theatre, music, poetry, Truth, Goodness, the Church, and God Himself. We must learn to love beauty, wherever it is found, and never use it for selfish gains. Our life is one of sacrifice for the Beloved.
The What? of The Knights of the Holy Temple
Fraternity, Formation, and Parish Service.
We give the a brotherhood to go on adventures with, fight battles with, and seek beauty with. These men hold each other accountable to living the Christian life.
We go on retreat together so as to learn more about our faith and about Adventure, Battle, and Beauty. We reflect on the wisdom and example of the adult men around us (especially confreres) to guide us in virtue.
The man is not his own. We serve at the Liturgy weekly, help with funerals and weddings, do service for the community, and give of ourselves in many other ways throughout the year.
We plan and execute all three of these through monthly meetings, yearly retreats, social gatherings, and personal prayer.
